Wee Pillows

I just stumbled upon a great little nautical store. Daytrip Society is a destination for those inspired by the romance of nature and the adventure of travel. I especially like these nautical pillows with illustrations that look like they came right out of Moby Dick.

Pirate Tub

I'm loving this little whale tub by Fisher Price. Perfect for a pirate baby girl or boy, it is available here.

Pirate Onesies

We've been working on our baby registry at Amazon.com and found some great onesies.

Wall Scales

I don't recall where I ran across this image, but it is sort of a fun idea. The scales could be made of paper or cloth. It somehow seems to suit a smaller wall, and I really like how id only comes half way up—like a funky sort of wainscoting.

Cribs

Love the neutral color scheme in this one and the gorgeous chair.

One option for posts, quite masculine.

Loving the details on the headboards and the feet.

These are pretty much the posters I like, though I'm definitely leaning toward the off-white cribs. Great option for bedding that is very sophisticated.

Another cute option. I also really like the bedskirt.

We've commissioned a custom crib from the very talented J. Fackenthall Woodworks. I couldn't be more excited. We aren't doing anything too "piratey" but something sophisticated and classic. Hopefully. I found these images to inform the inspiration.

Nautical Accents

I'm loving these nautical elements. They are quite sophisticated for a baby room, and perhaps that is what I find so charming. First is a spy scope found here, a ships wheel from here, an awesome piece of cast coral available here, a porthole mirror from here and a ship's wheel mirror from here.

Chandeliers

This is a vintage (circa 1950's) chandelier from the Todd Merrill Collection.

This chandelier is from Currey & Company and is available through Zuniga Interiors.

This Neiman Marcus Chandelier can be found here.

We've been working on lighting lately and it is a bit more difficult that I thought it would be. There are all of these gorgeous coral chandeliers, but I think our ceilings might be a little low for one of those. Nonetheless, I can't help but show them here.

Sea Creatures

On a recent trip to IKEA, Robb couldn't resist throwing this giant shark into our cart. It looks small in this image, but it is really about four feet long. Since then, we found a companion sea monster in the form of this giant octopus (found here).

Giant Clamshells

These have always inspired a sense of the magical—probably because you might find within one a giant pearl! I like the idea of filling one with glass floats as in the first image. You can find the second one (and the great shell and coral balls) here, the third one here and the last one here. Next I have to find a source for cool pieces of coral...

"Mosquito" Nets

We don't really have that many mosquitos in the summer, and I'm not sure I would actually drape the crib in a net, but I love the magic of these. They also have such a cool Caribbean aura to them, suitable for a pirate prince or princess. I found a great, inexpensive net at Ikea and am going to modify it a bit with edging and some flag pennants. I also am toying with the idea of the square top versus the round one. There is something very cool about it...

First Baby Room Furniture

We had the amazing opportunity to visit our "local" Portland Ikea this weekend. What a treat! We even went so far as to purchase our first piece of furniture for the baby room. Instead of purchasing an actual changing table, we've opted for this Edland chest of drawers. We'll put a changing pad on top and call it good. We also picked up this gorgeous Husnes mirror. Can't wait to start assembling this room!

Treasure Chests

I'm really loving the Trunks and Chests Store right now. I would buy so many of these if I could. I'm posting three of my favorites. Also, is this adorable vintage fruitcake tin from Etsy shop Fifth Quadrant Art.

Skeleton Keys

I've always had a fixation with these old keys. When I was six, I found a couple in an old toolshed and kept them in a treasure box (where they still are today). Then in high school I had some strange fixation with drawing skeleton key tattoos on my ankles. Pottery Barn has this adorable set of keys that I think would look stellar hanging on a wall of treasure maps. I even found a shop on Etsy that is selling this great skeleton key hanger. At yet another Etsy shop, you can buy your own skeleton key ring.

Bits and Pieces

A few more lovelies from Potterybarn. I think the shadowbox could be customized by adding your own photo. Potterybarn will even add a one letter monogram. The pillows are too cute!

Sea Stars

More Etsy fun. Shadowbox from natural home. Crocheted pillow from Sandy's Cape Cod. Pillow covers from Pillowhappy.
